A Brief History

Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka & Finance PLC (MBSL) is the pioneer Investment/Merchant Bank in Sri Lanka, which was incorporated in March 1982 and quoted on the Colombo Stock Exchange in 1991. MBSL boasts of a dynamic and dedicated staff of around 234 employees, working in the areas of Corporate Advisory & Capital Markets, Leasing, Trade and Project Finance. MBSL has forty eight (48) branches located in the major cities in Sri Lanka  

The Bank has a stated capital of LKR 1,067 million with its largest shareholder, the Bank of Ceylon holding a strategic stake of 72%. MBSL has entered into a strategic alliance in the year 2005 with SBI Capital Markets Limited which is the largest investment Bank in India.

The continued liberalization and government reforms opened up a vastly expanded scope of activities for the private sector in Sri Lanka’s development effort. MBSL has played a significant role in this environment, thus making a substantial contribution to private sector investments since its inception.

The Board of Directors of MBSL comprises of a directorate who are eminent leaders in Management / Industry and other opinion makers in their own right, with affiliations to the private and public sectors.

MBSL has awarded long term institutional rating of ICRA Lanka Rating - [SL]A (Stable) and short term rating of P1 by RAM Ratings Lanka Limited in 2008. We are also ISO 9001:2000 certified company.
